MS in Computer Science

Master’s applicants should have a strong background in computer science and a demonstrated ability to be successful in graduate level course work. The minimum GPA for MS students is 3.25 and your past course work should indicate your ability to attain this minimum in your graduate courses. Master’s applicants are expected to provide their own funding although some MS students who have strong research abilities and interests may find funding for their second year.

The Master’s of Science (MS) in Computer Science requires 31 credits. Students can opt for the Plan A thesis, the Plan B project, or the new Plan C coursework projects. The plan A and plan B should be discussed with your research advisor. All master’s students are required to satisfy the breadth requirement by taking 3 courses in the 3 areas and must also take 1 credit of Colloquium. Six credits from a related field or minor are also required. Each student also takes at least one advanced graduate level Computer Science course, usually in the area in which they intend to do research. Plan A thesis students will take 10 credits of MS thesis credits and Plan B students will register for the 3 credit Plan B course.
