CSE Excellence: By the numbers

  • Ranked 3rd in the Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index.

  • Ranked 9th for Citation Impact of Published Research Papers.

  • Current department faculty members have authored more than 2,500 refereed publications, including 800 journal articles.
  • CSE faculty are among the most cited authors. More than 11,000 citations of just 10 CSE faculty authored papers and books.

  • Ranked 15th for annual number of conferred doctorates.

  • 16 CSE faculty members received the NSF Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award, since the inception of the program in 1995. This number of awards is among the highest for Computer Science departments nationwide.
  • One of only five CSE departments in the nation with multiple recipients of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE).
  • Alumni have founded more than 180 companies.

Electrical Engineering student Shuo Guo and CSE Assistant Professor Tian He won a best paper award at the fifth IEEE International Conference on Mobile Ad-hoc and Sensor Systems (MASS 2008) for the paper "On Accurate and Efficient Statistical Counting in Sensor-Based Surveillance Systems" by Shuo Guo, Tian He, Mohamed Mokbel, John A.

CSE Professors win Best Paper Award

CSE professors John Collins and Maria Gini, along with CSE alumnus Wolf Ketter (P.h.D. ‘07) at Erasmus University in Rotterdam, received a Best Paper Award for the paper entitled, "Flexible Decision Support in a Dynamic Business Network," at the Smart Business Network conference last week in Beijing, China.

CSE professor Pen-Chung Yew wins Best Paper Award

A paper co-authored by CSE professor Pen-Chung Yew received a Best Paper Award at the 2007 International Conference on Parallel Processing (ICPP) held in China in September 2007. Yew worked on the paper with a group in the School of Software Engineering at Fudan University in Shanghai while on sabbatical in 2005-2006.
