External Relations
The department works to maintain close ties to the various communities outside of the University that we serve, including alumni, our partners in industry, and the general public. Peruse the links below to learn more about how we serve these various groups.
Alumni
Soundbyte Newsletter
The CSE department produces a newsletter twice-annually called Soundbyte, directed at alumni, faculty, students and the computer science and engineering community. The publication highlights prominent alumni and alumni achievements, as well as updating alumni about department faculty and student news, and opportunities to get involved.
Industry Partners
Many groups and major technology companies, such as the National Science Foundation, the Computer Science Associates, Honeywell and Guidant Corporation (now a part of Boston Scientific), foster an ongoing relationship with the department. These companies and groups assist in the cultivation of talent in the area of computer science and engineering through overall support, scholarships and research funding.
Computer Science Associates
The Computer Science Associates was formed to help the CSE department maintain its strong relationship with the community it serves. This group consists of members from business, industry, and other technically-oriented segments of the community who meet to examine issues that are relative to CSE programs.
University of Minnesota Software Engineering Center (UMSEC)
The CSE department created the University of Minnesota Software Engineering Center (UMSEC) to increase the coupling between research, education, and outreach. UMSEC will allow closer industry involvement in the department's research efforts and will facilitate more rapid technology transfer from researchers to software engineering professionals.
Public
Technology Forum
Every two years the department holds a technology forum to engage the public, alumni, industry and students and faculty in CSE department happenings. The next forum will be held in the fall of 2007. Click to learn more about the technology forum and find information about our distinguished alumni award.
