CSE Faculty, alumni, and members of industry celebrated 40 years of excellence at CSE’s Technology Forum and Open House on October 5, 2007. Industry and research exhibits were a major highlight of the event, giving attendees a sneak peek into the latest research and technology. In addition, CSE’s Distinguished Alumni Award winner Jeffrey Dean, a Google Fellow, and Keynote Speaker Stuart Feldman, Vice President of Engineering at Google, gave stimulating talks and the department hosted a compelling panel discussion on ‘The Future Workforce: Supply and Demand.’

The next CSE Technology Forum and Open House will be held in 2009.

About the Technology Forum

Industry exhibit at past technology forum

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering hosts a Technology Forum and Open House every two years. Exhibits highlight current departmental research group activities and state-of-the art demonstrations by members of industry. It provides a unique forum in which people from the industry, the government, and the University administration get to interact with faculty and students in the Computer Science & Engineering department. In addition to research exhibits, there are keynote speeches and panel discussions on emerging topics. These provide an opportunity to get a glimpse of what the technology leaders are thinking about in their respective areas.

In the past 5-7 years the department has grown from 25 to 40 faculty, and has clearly become the central point for Computer Science and Information Technology research and development in the state of Minnesota. Thus, the department is expanding into a number of exciting new areas including bio-tech, bio-informatics health-informatics, energy sciences, environmental sciences - as all of these fields need CS/IT for their next phase of growth.
