Wireless Access

* To follow Cisco’s best practices, EECS-WPA wireless LAN will stop supporting WPA2 on August 31, 2007. Only WPA will be supported on SSID EECS-WPA.

The EE/CS Building wireless network has access points that allow users with either an IT Labs account or a CS account to access the Internet and the EECS network. This service requires a machine with a wireless card and the ability to use DHCP to obtain an address. We recommend 802.11g cards with Atheros or Intel chipsets. 802.11a cards will also work on our network, but dual-band cards are recommended as 802.11a has a much shorter range.

Be advised that the traffic provided to the network card registered to an IT Labs or CS username is the user’s responsibility. Violations of the IT Labs AUP or the U of M AUP are the responsibility of the user who registered the card. Please read over University policies before accessing the network.

In order to access the wireless network you will need to register to receive a username and password for the wireless network. This username and password can be used to access the EECS-WPA SSID. Use the guides below to configure your laptop to access the network.

If you are unable to configure WPA on your machine, please contact the Systems Operator.

Wireless Troubleshooting

Intel PROSet/Wireless

Affected hardware:

* The Intel PROSet/Wireless configuration tool must be installed and used to configure EECS-WPA access.
