Printing on Laptops on the CS Network
Printing from Windows Laptops on the CS Network
Printing from personal laptops is very similar whether you are connected
using wireless or the wired network in CS.
-
Make sure you're on the CS network, if you are not you will
need to VPN into the network. Refer to the
VPN Connection help page.
-
Open Windows Explorer and enter "\\printhost.cs.umn.edu\" into
the address bar.
-
When prompted for your username and password, give your
username as "CS\<username>" and use your CS windows
account password as the password.
-
After authenticating, look down the list of printers
and double click on the printer you wish to add. This
will configure the printer on your local machine.
Please note that since you are printing from a laptop which isn’t
always connected to the CS network, chances are you may need to repeat
this process whenever you re-connect your laptop to the network before
you will be able to print.

Troubleshooting
If printing stops working, there are several things you should try:
-
Delete and re-add the printer. This will fix some authentication
issues which may come from removing your laptop from the CS network.
-
Make sure this is the printer you intend to print to. Double check
the name and the location of the printer.
-
Check the printer for any printing problems
