Printing on Laptops on the CS Network
Printing from Windows Laptops on the CS Network
Printing from personal laptops is very similar whether you are connected
using wireless or the wired network in CS.
-
Map a network drive to \\geta\soft01. To do this:
-
Right click on "My Computer" and select "Map Network Drive".
-
In the window that appears, you can select any letter in the
"Drive:" textbox.
-
In the "Folder" textbox, enter: \\128.101.32.196\soft01.
-
Click the "Connect using a different user name" link.
-
In the window that appears enter your username in the format
of CS\<username> and use your CS windows account
password as the password. Then hit "ok".
-
Back in the first window, be sure the "Reconnect at logon"
box is unchecked and then hit "Finish".
-
In the window that appears, double click the "Add_Printers" folder
and then double click the "add_printer.bat" file in that folder.
-
You will then see the "Add printer wizard" window pop up. When using
the wizard to add a printer, be sure to select "Network Printer" in
the 2nd window of the wizard.
-
You will be unable to browse to the printer that you want to add
during the Add a Printer wizard. So, in the 3rd screen of the wizard,
be sure to mark "Type the printer name ..." and in the text box
you’ll need to enter \\geta\<printername> rather than
browsing for the name of the printer you want to add. If that
doesn’t work, enter the following for the printer name:
\\128.101.32.196\<printername>.
-
After you’ve added the printer, you may see an error that
states "Default printer cannot be set". You can simply hit "ok" and
ignore this message.
-
Now, if you go to Start - Settings - Printers, you will see that the
printer has been added. To set it as the default printer, simply
right click on it and select "Set as Default Printer".
-
If you’d like to add another printer right away, you can go
back and again run "add_printer.bat" to restart the wizard.
Please note that since you are printing from a laptop which isn’t
always connected to the CS network, chances are you may need to repeat
this process whenever you re-connect your laptop to the network before
you will be able to print.

Troubleshooting
If printing stops working, there are several things you should try:
-
Delete and re-add the printer. This will fix some authentication
issues which may come from removing your laptop from the CS network.
-
Make sure this is the printer you intend to print to. Double check
the name and the location of the printer.
-
Check the printer for any printing problems
