Moving Up: CSE Graduate School Ranking Improves

The U.S. News & World Report released its 2008 list of top graduate programs and the University of Minnesota's computer science program ranked 31st in the nation. That ranking is up from the previous rankings of 34th place in 2007 and 36th place in 2006.

According to the U.S. News & World Report Web site, the data used to compile the 2008 rankings was based on surveys conducted in the fall of 2007 by more than 1,200 programs and 14,000 members of various academic and professional communities.

Overall, the CSE department’s rankings have followed this upward trend and continued to climb in recent years. In 2007, the department ranked 3rd in the Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index in the Chronicles of Higher Education and ranked 9th for the Citation Impact of Published Research Papers in Science Watch.
