CSE Grad Student Wins Award for Women's Outreach Work

The Office of University Women selected CSE graduate student Kelly Cannon to receive the Sharon L. Doherty Award for her outstanding outreach efforts focused on encouraging women and members of underrepresented groups to explore science and technology fields. The award will be presented at the Celebrating University Women Awards Program set for Thursday, April 24, from 2:30-4:30p.m. at the McNamara Alumni Center’s Memorial Hall.

Through her time at the University, Cannon has held many leadership roles in numerous outreach programs and activities, including starting the Kids Tech Camp, supported by the Digital Technology Center and CSE professor Nikolaos Papanikolopoulos. She has also participated in visits with K-12 school children and media interviews focused on the importance of girls going into science and computing careers.

The Sharon L. Doherty Award was established in 1993 to recognize University students who have demonstrated outstanding volunteer service work focused on women's issues. For more information, visit Office of University Women Awards.
