The GroupLens research team from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering was featured in the October 21 edition of the Minnesota Daily. The article covered GroupLens' work with recommender systems.
The group is currently developing BookLens, based on their MovieLens service. MovieLens makes recommendations for movies based on movies the user has seen.
The BookLens project will provide a service for local libraries that lack a system for recommending books to library patrons. While some libraries use an Amazon-like system for recommending books, the goals for Amazon and a library system differ. Read more about GroupLens and the BookLens project in the article titled "Software knows what films you like".
