A programming team from the University of Minnesota consisting of Peter Lofgren, Michael Ludwig, and Matthew Coudron won first place among the 225 teams competing in the North Central North America Region of the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) sponsored by IBM. As the first place winners, team "Blue" will attend the World Finals of The ICPC held in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, February 27 - March 4, 2011.
Another University of Minnesota team finished in fourth place. Team "Panda" members were Jian Liu, Lu Ye, and Jonathan Hsiao. The Minnesota teams were coached by faculty member Carl Sturtivant.
The North Central North America Region includes Minnesota, Wisconsin, Western Ontario, Manitoba, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, and Kansas. The regional contest was held on Saturday, November 6, 2010, at several sites, including the University of Minnesota.
