The Computer Science & Engineering Department is proud to announce that Dr. Rui Kuang has joined the faculty this fall. Assistant Professor Kuang’s work focuses on computational biology (bioinformatics) and machine learning.
The CSE department focused heavily on recruiting within the area of bioinformatics, as it’s a popular discipline with competitive opportunities in industry and academia.
Kuang received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Columbia University in 2006, his M.S. in Computer Science from Temple University in 2002 and his B.S. in Computer Science in 1999 from Nankai University in China. He has co-authored eight refereed publications for various conferences and journals.
Kuang’s research applies specifically to advanced learning techniques, including kernel methods and network diffusion algorithms, to address remote homology detection problems and related fundamental learning obstacles in protein structure prediction and analysis.
