Google representatives will host a tech talk and Q & A session for CSE students on Thursday, March 1, from 5:30-7 p.m. in EE/CSci. Building, room 3-210. The event will feature pizza and T-shirts, and a chance to hear about what it’s like to work at Google.
The tech talk will focus on the Google File System (GFS), a large scale distributed file system used for internal Google data and as a building block for other Google storage services. The presentation will be a brief, high-level overview of GFS and related testing. For further details, visit Google’s public GFS architecture paper.
Jay Han, a Software Engineer in Test in Google's Mountain View office, is the featured tech talk speaker. Currently, Han leads a small team on testing Google infrastructure – a Chubby distributed lock service, bits of GFS, and MapReduce. For his starter project at Google, Han tested and later launched Gmail.
Students are urged to submit questions for Google representatives prior to the talk at UMNquestions@gmail.com. For more information about Google job opportunities, visit Google. Applications should include resumes and unofficial transcripts.
