CSE Professor Shashi Shekhar has been selected to serve on the National Academies' Mapping Science Committee from 2007-2010. This committee provides oversight for the National Research Council's studies, which give direction to government agencies on geospatial science, technology, and policy issues.
The committee consists of more than a dozen members from a myriad of different disciplines including geography, environmental science, engineering, mathematics, and others. Shekhar, who was first selected to the committee in 2004, represents the computer science discipline and also participated in a study of basic and applied research priorities at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency.
