IBM awarded CSE Professor Zhi-Li Zhang and Assistant Professor Antonia Zhai with the IBM Faculty Award for 2007. The IBM Faculty Award is a competitive worldwide program that seeks to build collaborations between researchers at top universities and those in IBM development, research, and service groups. It is also intended to promote a curriculum that encourages advances in disciplines strategic to IBM. Zhai and Zhang were two of the 132 award recipients for 2007.
All candidates for this award are nominated by an IBM employee who then serves as a liaison for the industry collaboration. Nominees must be full-time professors at an accredited university with a Ph.D. or M.B.A. program in the nominee's field. Also, candidates must have made outstanding contributions in their field. In the case of junior faculty, candidates must demonstrate rare promise. The maximum award to any individual recipient is $40,000 annually.
