CSE Graduate Student and Faculty Improve Paint Design Software

August 9, 2007

An example with the paint design software

Would that sconce look better painted white or bronze? Want to find out with out picking up a paint brush? CSE Professor Gary Meyer and graduate student, Seth Berrier, developed a computer program for Benjamin Moore Paints that allows users to select household paint colors and see the color, gloss, and finish of various paints on different surfaces. Berrier developed the software in conjunction with pre-existing Benjamin Moore software and combined together, the software package is called the Wall of Inspiration Suite. Berrier and Meyer developed the software at the University's Digital Technology Center.

This technology is already being used by the company in stores on the East Coast. This summer, Berrier is working on the project as an independent contractor to support the software implementation and assist the company’s IT department in taking over control of software operations.
