The fashion police are no longer targeting celebrities alone. Online, self proclaimed fashionistas are now critiquing the attire of average people (mostly women), too. A story in this week’s Pioneer Press discusses the new online fashion phenomenon in which women post pictures of themselves and/or others for a fashion critique.

CSE Professor John Riedl chimed in on the topic. In the story, he said that the online fashion obsession is another example of how people are turning to the Internet to things they used to go elsewhere for – no longer seeking expert advice, instead going to the Web. He said people’s participation in these types of sites also plays into a desire to contribute.
