The University of Minnesota’s Division of Epidemiology and Community Health in the School of Public Health recently granted CSE Professor Joseph Konstan an adjunct professor appointment. His primary role will be to collaborate on research, teaching and training in Internet-based studies relating to HIV and nutrition. In addition to advising graduate students, the collaboration also includes a new fall course, entitled On-line Intervention Design.
For more than five years Konstan and B. R. Simon Rosser, a University professor in the Division of Epidemiology and Community Health, have been creating computer systems to help prevent the spread of HIV. Through the Men’s Internet Study (MINTS), Konstan, Rosser, and a team of scientists from across the University created a multi-phased, interdisciplinary project researching the behavior and patterns of men who use the Internet to seek male sexual partners and developing software intended to decrease sexual risk taking. In addition to his work in public health, Konstan also serves on the graduate faculty for the Department of Rhetoric and Human Factors.
