CSE Professor Joseph Konstan has been nominated for Vice President of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) group. The Vice President would serve as one of three main governing officers and on the ACM Executive Committee. The elections will be held in the spring and appointments would begin July 1, 2007.
Konstan currently serves on the Executive Committee as Chair of the Special Interest Group Governing Board (SGB). He also served as the SIG Governing Board Chair (2006-2008), SIG Governing Board vice-Chair (2004-2006), President of ACM SIGCHI (SIG on Computer-Human Interaction) (2003-2006), in addition to serving in other minor roles and as General Chair of two conferences.
According to the ACM Web site, ACM is an organization for computing professionals, providing resources to advance computer science, encourage career development, and promote work that benefits society. Konstan said that ACM has more than 85,000 members in more than 140 countries worldwide. The group also sponsors more than 120 conferences annually and publishes more than 40 journals, and magazines, and other related literature. For more information, visit ACM.
