CSE professor Anand Tripathi has been elected Fellow of the IEEE for his contributions to distributed system software architectures and programming frameworks. Tripathi is the 7th CSE faculty member to be named as an IEEE Fellow.

The IEEE Grade of Fellow is conferred by the Board of Directors upon a person with an extraordinary record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest. The total number selected in any one year does not exceed one-tenth percent of the total voting Institute membership.

Tripathi’s research focuses on distributed computing - more specifically, pervasive and ubiquitous computing, agent-based systems, object-based software composition frameworks, system security, and fault-tolerant computing. His research group developed the Ajanta mobile agent programming system for Internet-based applications. Ajanta has been used by numerous research projects worldwide. More recently, his group has used the Ajanta system for building programming environments for constructing distributed event stream processing systems, context aware pervasive computing environments, and secure distributed collaboration systems.
