The Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) awarded CSE professor Maria Gini with the distinction of Fellow for her major contributions to work in multi-robot and multi-agent systems, her demonstrated leadership in the artificial intelligence community, and her work to inspire youth. The AAAI will celebrate this honor at a Fellows dinner Chicago, Ill. on July 15.

AAAI Fellows are elected by the association’s Fellows Selection Committee. The awards program started in 1990 in an effort to recognize those who have made consistent and significant contributions throughout their career in the artificial intelligence field.

Gini's research is focused on artificial intelligence and robotics. Much of her work deals with self-interested intelligent agents that negotiate with other agents to complete tasks in partially known environments. In addition to research, Gini has proven to be an exemplary teacher and shown dedication in mentoring current and future women students in computer science. Gini is a Morse-Alumni Distinguished Teaching Professor, a member of the Academy of Distinguished Teachers at the University of Minnesota, and winner of the University’s Inaugural Distinguished Women Scholars Award.
