CSE professor Shashi Shekhar has been awarded the distinction of Fellow to the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Shekhar was recognized for his distinguished research, service and teaching contributions to the advancement of science in the fields of spatial databases, spatial data mining and geographic information science.
The AAAS has awarded the distinction of Fellow to 486 of its members this year, including seven from the University of Minnesota. Election as a Fellow is an honor bestowed upon AAAS members by their peers.
Provost Thomas Sullivan said of the awards, "We are delighted with the selection of these distinguished university colleagues. Given the critical relevance of advancing science to our society, we at the university are all honored by their presence here and their pathbreaking contributions to science and society."
