CS&E student participates in NASA Planetary Sciences Summer School

Ph.D. student Joel A. Hesch was selected to participate in the 2009 NASA Planetary Sciences Summer School. Hesch was one of 18 participants who spent an intensive week at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, CA developing an early-mission concept study for a New Frontiers class robotic space mission. Students worked one-on-one with NASA scientists and engineers to identify primary science goals, select instrumentation, design spacecraft and subsystems, create a mission time-line, and provide a comprehensive study of cost analysis and risk assessment.
