The University of Minnesota will award I. Volkan Isler the McKnight Land-Grant Professorship, a two-year appointment that includes a research grant for each year. The award will be bestowed in March and begin on July 1, 2010.

Isler’s research interests are in the emerging and highly promising area of robotic sensor networks. These are networks of small robotic devices carrying sensors. A robotic sensor network composed of a large number of units can be deployed over a large area to collect measurements in an autonomous fashion over long periods of time.

The University of Minnesota Graduate School founded the McKnight Land-Grant Professorship program in 1987 as a way to recognize the school's most promising junior faculty. The program is intended to help advance the careers of assistant professors in the early stages of their careers and recognize them for their potential for significant future contributions to their respective field.
