Here's an update on the TA situation. I'm getting a number of inquiries from people, so I'll give an overview of the process and current situation.
First, the next round of offers, as well as the assignments for people who already have an offer will go out in the next couple of days.
Second, after this offer, there will be at least two additional rounds of offers. Most likely, there will be one near the end of classes and another near the start of Spring classes. However, this is not set in stone and so I may, for example, make additional offers over break.
Information about criteria used for making offers, etc. can be found online in the TA handbook. For Spring, how well applicant's areas of expertise match up with department needs will be a major concern, since it looks like we will have a few hard-to-fill classes.
If you are a PhD student who does not yet have a TA position and has not yet told me you're interested: please let me know that you are interested. (We have a large number of applications from Fall, and if I haven't heard from you I'll assume you have found other support.)
If you are currently a TA but have not gotten an offer yet: I hope to be able to make offers to most, if not all of the current TAs, but some of the offers will be in the later rounds.
If you are a M.S. student: I will probably be able to make offers to a few M.S. students next semester, but not many. M.S. students who currently have a TA have priority over M.S. students who do not.
If you are an international student whose native language is not English: if you have not yet passed the SPEAK test or TA English program, you will need to take and pass (a score of 50 or, preferably, better) the SPEAK test before being considered for a TA.
