CSE Profile: Daniel Keefe
![]() Assistant Professor (612) 626-7508 Office: EE/CS 6-189 InterestsScientific visualization, 3D user interfaces, and interactive computer graphics. EducationPh.D. 2007, Computer Science, Brown University Sc.M. 2001, Computer Science, Brown University B.S.C.E. 1999, Computer Engineering, Tufts University | Assistant Professor Keefe specializes in visualization, interactive techniques, and graphics for interdisciplinary applications in science. His academic record includes more than a dozen publications, including journal and conference papers and a book chapter. His work has also been published and exhibited within the digital art and design community. He was nominated for the ACM Doctoral Dissertation Award. He is a member of the ACM and the IEEE. ResearchMy research centers around data visualization and human-computer interaction as applied to scientific disciplines. In particular, I am interested in advancing methods for working effectively with multi-dimensional, multi-valued data sets using large-scale and high-resolution displays, virtual reality, mixed virtual and physical reality, haptic interfaces, and bi-manual interfaces. Through collaboration with scientists, doctors, and visual experts (cognitive scientists, designers, and artists) I work toward better understandings of how to leverage the properties of human perception to display layers of complex data as effectively as possible. I also work to understand how scientists can better explore their data through manipulation using interactive systems. My research draws heavily upon interdisciplinary collaborations and also upon my own background in art. I have a keen interest in bringing scientists and artists/visual designers together to address visual challenges in data presentation. My research often results in tools and processes for supporting this scientist--designer collaboration. Personal Home Page |
