The student chapter of ACM at the University of Minnesota endeavors to apply the principles of the National ACM on a smaller level in their mission to service the Computer Science and Engineering Department, students, and computing enthusiasts in general. Throughout the school year, it sponsors a wide variety of activities, including lectures and instructional classes. They have test files, study groups, speakers, job postings, social events and more. For more information, check the ACM web site, or visit the ACM office in Keller 2-204.
The CSGSA was founded to present to the faculty the needs of graduate students in the department, to provide a social organization for computer science graduate students, and to help to build a better computer science department here at the University of Minnesota. If you are a graduate student in the department, you are automatically a member of the CSGSA.
The Women in Computer Science Program is a student run organization. Most meetings center around issues related to graduate school and subsequent careers, but all women interested in computer science as a profession are welcome.
The following organizations are not sponsored by the CS&E department, but may be of interest to Computer Science and Engineering students. See a complete list of Student Organizations registered with the Student Activities Office.
COGS is an advocacy group for all graduate students at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities and Duluth campuses. They meet often and work closely with GAPSA, another advocacy group for professional and graduate students.
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is the world’s largest technical professional society. IEEE focuses on advancing the theory and practice of electrical, electronics, computer engineering and computer science. IEEE sponsors many technical conferences and publishes nearly thirty percent of all technical papers in electrical engineering, electronics and computer engineering. For further information about IEEE or about joining the University of Minnesota student chapter, call 625-6898, stop by Keller 2-127, or visit their web site.
