Center for Transportation Studies (CTS)

CTS was created in 1987 to address the need for closer cooperation between University faculty and state and federal departments of transportation, and to strengthen the University’s role in transportation research and education. Throughout its history, the Center has served as a resource and facilitator, helping talented University researchers develop new knowledge about transportation and then helping share that knowledge with professionals and policymakers.

Charles Babbage Institute: Center for the History of Information Technology

The Charles Babbage Institute is an historical archives and research center of the University of Minnesota. CBI is dedicated to promoting study of the history of information technology and information processing and their impact on society. CBI preserves relevant historical documentation in all media, conducts and fosters research in history and archival methods, offers graduate fellowships, and sponsors symposia, conferences, and publications.

Consortium for Bioinformatics & Computational Biology (CBCB)

Digital Technology Center (DTC)

The DTC integrates research, education, and outreach in digital design, computer graphics and visualization, telecommunications, intelligent data storage and retrieval systems, multimedia, data mining, scientific computation, and other digital technologies. Located in Walter Library, the DTC houses the Supercomputer Institute for Digital Simulation and Advanced Computation for supercomputing research, the Laboratory for Computational Science and Engineering for computational science and engineering and visualization, and the Usability Laboratory for evaluations of computational solutions. Additional, specialized laboratories assist with research projects.

Institute for Mathematics and its Applications

The IMA was established in 1982 by the National Science Foundation, as a result of a national competition. The mission of the Institute is to close the gap between theory and its applications-- to identify problems and areas of mathematical research needed in other sciences, and to encourage the participation of mathematicians in these areas of application by providing settings conducive to the solution of such problems, and by demonstrating that first-rate mathematics can make a real impact in the sciences.

Laboratory for Computational Science and Engineering

The Laboratory of Computational Science and Engineering (LCSE) provides a facility in which innovative hardware and system software solutions to problems in computational science and engineering can be tested and applied.

Security in Transportation Technology Research and Applications (SECTTRA)

The Security in Transportation Technology Research and Applications program is a joint effort of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and the Center for Transportation Studies (CTS) at the University of Minnesota. SECTTRA works collaboratively with University of Minnesota researchers and other research programs, including the Intelligent Transportation Systems Institute and the public-private Safety Security Rescue Research Center (SSR-RC), to support the development and application of advanced technologies to improve transportation security.

University of Minnesota Supercomputing Institute

The Supercomputing Institute for Digital Simulation and Advanced Computation is an interdisciplinary research program spanning all colleges of the University of Minnesota. The Supercomputing Institute provides supercomputing resources and user support to faculty and students and is a linchpin program in the University's broad-based digital technology effort.
