Instructional Cluster

  • Eight 1u Rack Mounted Computers: 2.4 GHz Intel Pentium 4 CPU, 512 MB RAM

The instructional cluster consists of eight 1u rack mounted computers. Each computer has a 2.4 GHz Intel Pentium 4 CPU and 512 MB RAM. These computers are behind a firewall so students may be granted root access. These 8 computers are for instructional use and can be used for any class project you choose. Since students will have root access, we will not share any file systems to these machines. As a result, students will not have access to their home directories, but they will be able to ssh into them from either IT Labs or CS computers. We have a network managed power switch so if any student locks up the computer while doing kernel development, they can power cycle the computer remotely. We will also have a terminal server so they can get remote access to the console. Currently, we only have 7 computers. The 8th computer along with the terminal server have been ordered.
