3.1. CLA Students

CLA students interested in the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Computer Science need to apply directly to the Computer Science & Engineering Department for admission as a CSci Major by meeting with a CSci advisor. To apply, a student must fill out a CLA petition form and attach a current copy of their APAS report. Petition forms may be picked up in the college or department office.

Evaluation for admission is based on criteria in effect at the time the student is admitted to the University. Criteria for acceptance to the CSci major are as follows: a student should have completed the Calculus courses (Math 1271 and 1272, or Math 1371 and 1372), and CSci 1901, 1902 and 2011. Each course must have been completed with a C- or better. The applicant must have a GPA in technical courses of 2.4 or better. Technical courses include the Computer Science, Math, and Statistics courses required for the Computer Science degree. Only classes taken at the University of Minnesota count towards the technical GPA. If the GPA in technical courses is below 2.4, the department reserves the right to deny admission to the major. Students are advised not to delay application to the major.
