CS&E Ph.D. student Minghan Wei has been awarded the John T. Riedl Memorial Graduate Teaching Assistant Award for 2017. The award recognizes graduate teaching assistants whose efforts have helped other students succeed in the classroom.

Wei was selected for playing an instrumental role in the experience of CS&E undergraduates, often going above and beyond what was required as a TA. He is known to be ready to reply with a detailed response, even to questions sent late into the evening.  Additionally, Wei goes out of his way to be sure student needs are met, often scheduling meetings outside his office hours to patiently working through difficult problems.

“Wei led me through the thinking process and let me find the solution to answers,” one student noted.  “This helped me connect all the random knowledge and definitions in my and led to my success in class and deepened my knowledge in the subject.”

Wei will be presented with the award on May 12.  Please join CS&E in extending our congratulations to Minghan Wei for his dedication in helping our student body in their academic and career pursuits.

Before his untimely passing away in 2013, Professor John Riedl, himself a devoted, exceptional teacher, asked that funds contributed by his friends and colleagues be used to establish this memorial award.
