Knights Named One of Twin Cities’ ‘Top 100 People to Know’
Assistant Professor Dan Knights has been named one of Twin Cities’ top 100 people to know by Twin Cities Business magazine. The magazine’s annual list recognizes key individuals they expect to make a lasting impact on local business, the regional economy, and the quality of life in and around Minnesota in 2017.
Knights was picked for his groundbreaking research into the human microbiome and how it is connected to a range of diseases. By combining machine learning and medical inquiry, Knights is able to provide unique level of insight into how gut microbes contribute to human health. Over the course of the next year, Knights will be using his expertise and a $1 million grant from the Minnesota Partnership for Biotechnology and Medical Genomics to lead a team of researchers in a study to better understand irritable bowel syndrome and the role gut microbes play.
