Professor Tian He Receives Best Paper at MobiCom 2017
Professor Tian He received the Best Paper Award at the 23rd Annual International Conference on Mobile Computing and Networking (MobiCom 2017). He was honored for his paper “Physical-Layer Cross-Technology Communication via Emulation.”
Professor He was joined by visiting professor Zhijun Li (Harbin Institute of Technology) on their research into cross-technology communication (CTC). Their paper dives into their innovative work, named WEBee, which opens up a promising direction for direct communication among heterogeneous wireless devices. By using a high-speed wireless radio to emulate the desired signals of low-speed radio and requiring no new hardware to implement, this technique essentially creates a transformative and zero-cost way for two incompatible wireless devices talk to each other directly.
Professor He is affiliated with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, the University of Minnesota and the focus of his research is in wireless networks, embedded systems, and cyber-physical systems. He received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Virginia, Virginia. Dr. He is the author and co-author of over 200 papers in premier network journals and conferences with over 20,000 citations (H-Index 61). He is the recipient of the NSF CAREER Award (2009), McKnight Land-Grant Chaired Professorship (2011), George W. Taylor Distinguished Research Award (2015), China NSF Outstanding Overseas Young Researcher I and II (2012 and 2016), and six best paper awards in international conferences.
MobiCom 2017 was held in Snowbird, Utah and is the premier international forum addressing all areas of mobile computing and mobile and wireless networking.
