Colloquium: Data analytics and optimization for smart transportation
Bio: Qie He is an assistant professor at the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, University of Minnesota. His main research goal is to develop optimization algorithms and software for public transportation and logistics. He is also interested in optimal control theory with its application in cancer treatment. He earned a PhD in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Tech in 2013, an MS in Control Science and Engineering and a BS in Automation, both from the Tsinghua University.
Abstract: This talk will illustrate the power of using data, algorithms, and optimization to improve the complex decision making process in public transportation and logistics, through examples on workforce planning at a large public transportation service provider, energy minimization in shipping, and revenue management for on-demand delivery systems.
