Colloquium: Irene Qualters (CRAY) The Next Quantum Revolution
Abstract: In a 1965 paper, Gordon Moore, cofounder of Fairchild and Intel, observed that the number of transistors per integrated chip was doubling every year and predicted that this trend would continue. This steady cadence has contributed greatly to the ubiquity and progress of computing. Now, however, physical limits have been reached, forcing research into fundamentally new and disruptive approaches. This is a high level perspective on opportunities and challenges in one such promising area.
